Nonallergic Rhinitis
Nonallergic rhinitis is a diagnosis of exclusion in which no allergic, structural, or systemic cause can be found to explain rhinitis. There is no universally accepted definition of perennial nonallergic rhinitis, but a general description is that it is a disease that persists over 9 months each year and produces 2 or more of the following symptoms:
- Watery or mucous secretions
- Nasal congestion
- Sneezing
The symptoms are due to a hyperreactive nasal mucosa which is responsive to nonspecific triggers. Since the cause is not allergic, these conditions will not respond to allergy injections.
